Over-Speeding, Faulty Vehicles Among Top Passenger Safety Concerns – Report

A recent report by CUTS International, a consumer advocacy organisation, has highlighted significant safety concerns for commercial passengers in Ghana, including issues such as over-speeding, faulty vehicles, and drunk driving.

These findings were presented by Appiah Kusi Adomako, West African Regional Director for CUTS, during the World Consumer Rights Day event and the launch of the State of the Ghana Consumer Report 2025 at Alisa Hotel in Accra on Wednesday, March 18.

“Main concerns of road users include:

  • 76.35% complained of over-speeding,
  • 74.66% complained of bad roads,
  • 53.72% cited faulty vehicles,
  • 46.62% mentioned over-loaded vehicles,
  • 41.22% reported drunk driving,
  • and high transport fares are also another issue that road users face,” he stated.

These statistics underscore the pressing need for enhanced road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to protect passengers and reduce road accidents in Ghana.
